Mr. Vaughn is from across the bridge in Baytown, Texas, and attended Goose Creek Memorial High School. After graduating from Goose Creek, he attended Stephen F. Austin State University and received his Bachelor's degree in Music Education, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. He then attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and obtained his Master’s degree in trumpet performance. During his time in school, Mr. Vaughn was an active performer and would often perform in all ensembles, including Concert Band, Jazz Band, Marching Band, and Orchestra.
Mr. Vaughn has many notable performing achievements which include: being a finalist in the Drum Corps International World Championship with the Guardians and Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps. Performing internationally with the Stephen F. Austin State University Marching Band, for the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Dublin, Ireland. Performing with semi-professional orchestras, including the Orchestra of the Pines and the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra. Winning the University of Louisiana at Lafayette concerto competition and performing his winning concerto with the University Orchestra.
Mr. Vaughn came to us from Hitchcock ISD where he was the head middle school band director and the assistant high school director. In his two years at Hitchcock ISD, he assisted the band's return to the UIL State Marching Band Contest in 2023 and 2024. Where in 2024, they made it to the finals for the first time in school history, placing 10th among all 3A band programs in the state. Likewise, he assisted with the top concert band at the high school, where they would go on to place 6th overall in the prestigious TMEA Honor Band Contest. He helped over 50 students between high school and middle make the all-region band, with 25 of them advancing to area, and 2 trumpet players making it all the way to the prestigious ATSSB All-State Band. Mr. Vaughn also started and built the Hitchcock jazz program from scratch, with the jazz band having many successful community performances, and 4 students making the all-region jazz band. On the podium, he led his band to Sweepstakes in 2024 and assisted with other bands achieving sweepstakes in 2024-2025.
During his free time, Mr. Vaughn likes to watch YouTube/TikTok, listen to and make music, play video games, watch sports, cook, and hang out with friends, family, and his cats! Mr. Vaughn is super excited to be in Deer Park and looks forward to helping the fine arts grow in Deer Park!
